Mineral Area team heading to World Series in Utah

LAMAR, CO — The Mineral Area American All Stars will be heading to the Babe Ruth 14-year-olds World Series after capturing the Midwest Plains Regional Tournament championship. Mineral Area defeated Bismarck, 6-3, in the championship game on Tuesday. It was the second time they had defeated the North Dakota team in the tournament.

Brandt Busenbark and Logan Winder shared pitching duties again. Busenbark threw the first four innings, allowing only two runs on six hits and one walk. Winder threw the last three innings, yielding only one run on three hits and no walks.

Mineral Area trailed going into their at-bats in the fifth inning. Matt Eaton sparked a four run rally with a single, and Collin Huitt put the All-Stars ahead for good with a two-run double. Andres Castro hit two singles in the game, and Drew Jaco, Noah Skaggs, Winder and Busenbark each contributed one single to Mineral Area’s eight hits.

Mineral Area will travel to Murray, Utah to play in the World Series which starts on August 18 and runs to the 25th.
