Q&A session about new CEO

IRON COUNTY – A question and answer session meant to clear the air regarding the controversial hiring of a former presiding commissioner as Iron County Hospital CEO will take place tonight.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Arcadia Valley High School cafeteria, 520 Park Drive in Ironton.

The recent hiring of former Iron County Presiding Commissioner Terry Nichols by the hospital district board left many county residents angry once the board’s decision was made public. Approximately 40 community members, hospital staff and county employees attended the August meeting of the Iron County Hospital District Board to express their dissatisfaction with its choice of Nichols. He filled the position vacated in June by former hospital CEO John T. Schwent Jr.

At last month’s meeting, Annapolis businessman Jim Scaggs spoke on behalf of a six-person committee formed to convince the board to rescind Nichols’ hiring. He, along with several other county residents, told the board of their disappointment in Nichols’ hiring.

At the conclusion of that meeting, ICHDB President Ron Hopkins announced the board would hold a public question and answer session for the community to learn how the choice of Nichols was made. In addition to board members, Nichols and Jim Morell of JCM Advisors, LLC — the company that oversaw the selection process of the new hospital CEO — are expected to be present.
