Perfect game lifts North County in district opener

POTOSI — Freshman Jessica Newburry and senior Paige Faircloth combined to pitch a perfect game Wednesday night, leading the North County softball team into the Class 3, District 1 semifinal round.

Newburry dominated for three innings before Faircloth relieved for the final six outs of an abbreviated 10-0 victory over Potosi.

Emily Robinson connected for a home run and finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored as the 3rd-seeded Lady Raiders (11-10) advanced to face Notre Dame today at 5:30 p.m.

Shelby Westbrooks added two hits and Olivia Hall collected three RBI. Other North County hits were picked up by Megan Parks, Alisha Caro, Madison Binkard, and Tiffany Newburry.

Perryville defeated Fredericktown 7-1 and Notre Dame hammered Doniphan 23-0 in other quarterfinal at Potosi. Central (16-5) earned the top seed and a first-round bye.
