Parrent faces new charges

Jason Parrent again has charges pending.

Parrent, who is serving a 15-year sentence in prison for voluntary manslaughter, is charged in connection with an incident not related to the manslaughter death. He is charged with the Class C felony of possession of a controlled substance and the Class D felony of unlawful use of a weapon.

On Thursday, Parrent waived his right to a preliminary hearing. His case was bound over to the circuit court level for trial setting.

Special Prosecuting Attorney dismissed the original drug case in April because an essential witness was in prison and refused to testify. The case was almost immediately refiled though.

According to police reports, Farmington Police were dispatched to a residence June 15, 2009, because Parrent had reportedly flourished a gas-propelled gun at another man. Parrent was then found in possession of 11 prescription pills and at that time, charged with unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree assault and possession of a controlled substance.

Parrent was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in April in connection with the 2010 death of 44-year-old Donis Clanton, a disabled former Green Beret.
