Valle has three of seven local all-state players

ST. LOUIS — A remarkable 32-1 season helped the Valle Catholic volleyball team land three standout players on the MHSVCA Class 1 all-state team.

Leading attacker Gretchen Koller was a First Team selection for the Lady Warriors, who fell to eventual state champion Winona in the sectional round following a perfect regular season.

Teammate and 4-year starting libero Katie Bader made the Second Team while junior middle blocker Mackenzie Wipfler received Honorable Mention.

Valle captured the Class 1 state championship in 2010 and finished runner-up last season.

Two other players from the MAAA Conference returned to the all-state list. Bismarck junior Darcy Latham secured a spot on the Class 1 Second Team, and Farmington senior Rachel Williams was Class 4 Honorable Mention.

Williams led the Knightettes to three consecutive district titles as a powerful middle hitter.

The Class 3 Honorable Mention honorees include Ste. Genevieve senior Paige Schmelzle and Central senior Briley Merritt. Each athlete showed versatility throughout the rotation as a hitter and setter.
