One in custody after shooting

One person was in custody and another was being sought after a shooting Tuesday afternoon.

According to a press release from the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department Tuesday night, the shooting occurred about 3 p.m. at a business in the 4100 block of Highway 221, which is outside the city limits of Farmington.

A 39-year-old resident was shot at least once on the left side of his upper torso and back. The victim’s injuries, which appeared to have been inflicted with a shotgun, are not believed to be life-threatening.

Following the shooting the victim drove himself to a gas station about a quarter-mile east of the shooting location to seek help. The victim was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.

One suspect, a 37 year-old Farmington resident, was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with the shooting. Another suspect, a 59 year-old Farmington resident, fled the scene and is still being sought as of Tuesday night.

A motive for the shooting has not yet been determined. Additional arrests are expected. Officers with the Farmington Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol are assisting with the investigation.
