Police investigate shooting

Two men were taken into custody shortly after a shooting at a Farmington business on Highway 221 Tuesday, but both were later released.

According to the a press release from the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday afternoon, the first individual, a 51-year-old man, was arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant from St. Louis County for possession of a controlled substance. He has since posted bond on the charge and been released.

The second individual, a 37-year-old Farmington resident, was questioned and released pending further investigation.

A 59 year-old Farmington resident is still being sought in connection with the incident.

The 39 year-old victim of the shooting has been treated and released from a St. Louis hospital and is expected to recover. The man was shot at least once.

The investigation is ongoing and no formal charges have been filed as of Wednesday. Chief Deputy Greg Armstrong indicated the investigation could take some time.

No motive has been given for the shooting that occurred about 3 p.m. in the 4100 block of Highway 221.

Following the shooting the victim drove himself to a gas station about a quarter-mile east of the shooting location to seek help. The victim was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.

Farmington Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol are assisting with the investigation.
