DAR holds monthly meeting
The Sarah Barton Murphy Chapter, NSDAR, held its regular monthly meeting Dec. 1 at Ryan’s Steakhouse in Farmington. Regent Janet Kemp chaired the meeting, Vice-Regent Cara Akridge led the ritual.
The main highlight of the meeting was the participation in the Missiouri Veterans Recognition program which traces its roots to an April, 23, 1919 Act of Missouri General Assembly. The act authorized the Missouri Adjutant General to present, as a token of appreciation of the state, a War medallion, medal and certificate to any Honorable Discharged Missouri Veteran who served active duty within the United States or in a foreign country during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. Twelve Presentations were made by Jefferson Barracks National Guard members Captain David Stewart and First Sergeant Charles Hinde.
Carol Farr presented the program “Christmas Carols of the Past.” Registrar Karen Kleinberg, Vice-Regent Cara Akrigde and Treasurer Colleen Cruse gave a presentation about decorating the Christmas tree at DAR state headquarters Roslyn Heights in Boonville. The theme was “Star Spangled Season, celebrating American Christmas Traditions at Roslyn Heights.” The festive tree was decorated in patriotic colors and symbols.
The next meeting of Sarah Barton Murphy Chapter will be Jan. 4 at 9 a.m. at Ryan’s Steakhouse in Farmington.
