19 year old Festus woman killed on U.S. 67
Victoria L. Karnes, 19, of Festus was killed in a collision 12:45 p.m. Friday on U.S. 67 southbound at Buck Creek Road in Jefferson County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Karnes was attempting to cross the southbound lanes in a 2006 Nissan Sentra when the vehicle traveled into the path of and was struck by a 1996 Ford Explorer driven by Robert L. Smith, 70, of Bismarck.
Karnes was pronounced dead at the scene 1:04 p.m. Friday by EMS personnel. According to the report she was wearing a seatbelt. She was transported to the St. Louis County Medical Examiner by Schaffers Mortuary.
A passenger in the Sentra, Jeremy M. Rogers, 25, of Festus, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Barnes-Jewish by Lifeflight. It is unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt according to the report.
The driver of the Explorer sustained minor injuries and was transported to Jefferson Memorial Hospital by Joachim Plattin Ambulance. The report stated he was wearing a seatbelt.
Damage to the Sentra was listed as total and it was towed from the scene. Damage to the Explorer was listed as Extensive and it was towed from the scene.
