Dragons take first in district, will send 12 to state

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve Dragons dominated the Class 2, District 1 Tournament on Saturday, winning first place over 100 points ahead of second-place Dexter. The Dragons took first-place in five of the 14 weight classes, and they qualified 12 wrestlers for the Class 2 State Meet. 

Daniel Terrana (285) 42-3 won his first-place match with a pin over Denzel Warren of Vashon at 1:09. Terrana won all four of his matches by pin in the first period with times of 1:32, 1:08 and 1:04.

Ethan Vaeth (160) won first-place with a 9-6 decision over William Corson of Sullivan. Vaeth was 3-0 with two pins.

120 – Travis Jones (45-2) placed first, winning his championship match by an 18-3 tech fall over James Mullins of Dexter.

138 – Tyler Jones (33-14) placed first with a disqualification win to go along with two wins by fall.

126 – Cole Reynolds (44-4) placed first winning the first-place match by pin in 4:45 over Kyle McCallister of Affton.

Ryan Grieshaber (106) and Tanner Jones (132) both placed second losing by decision in their respective championship matches. Wyatt Hahn (152) finished  3-1 to also place second.

Andrew DeRousse (113) placed third with two pins, and Luke Hemmerla (195) placed third with three pins.

Kellen Steagall (220) and Corey Heberlie (182) both finished 2-2 for fourth place.
