Defining 16-0 run sparks Lady Warriors
CRYSTAL CITY — Valle Catholic answered an opening basket by Crystal City with a 16-0 run Tuesday night, and rolled into the Class 2, District 4 semifinal round with a 58-28 victory over the tournament host squad.
Mackenzie Wipfler posted 18 points with 12 rebounds and seven steals as the 2nd-seeded Lady Warriors (17-9) advanced to face Elsberry today at 4 p.m. The semifinal round was originally schedule for Thursday.
Lacie Luttrell compiled 14 points with five steals and Gretchen Koller added 10 points in the win. Valle Catholic built a 37-18 halftime advantage, and forced 34 Crystal City turnovers.
Freshman Briley Bieser chipped in seven points during the second quarter, and Cassandra Moulton had seven assists.
Brittani Thurman scored eight points to lead Crystal City.
