Blackcats hitless in five inning loss
CAPE GIRARDEAU — The Fredericktown Blackcats held the 5-0 Cape-Notre Dame Bulldogs to only a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, but the Bulldogs bats came alive to score nine runs in what would be their final at-bats for a 10-0 win.
The Blackcats defense was perfect as they did not commit a single error in the field in the only not-washed-out game for area baseball teams played on Wednesday, but Fredericktown’s batters could not come up with one hit against Bulldogs’ pitcher Justin Landewee.
Senior Andre Atkeson started well as he pitched three and two-thirds scoreless innings for the Blackcats before the Bulldogs (6-0) scored a lone run in the fourth. Atkeson struck out three and walked only two over four and one-third innings, but he was tagged for eight hits and five earned runs by the Bulldog hitters.
Fredericktown (2-2) will start conference play on Tuesday with a trip to North County for their next game.
