Driver falls asleep

A Bonne Terre woman was injured after falling asleep at the wheel 4:20 p.m. Thursday on southbound US 67 north of Cash Lane.

Nakiesha D. Buerkre, 32, of Bonne Terre, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Parkland Hospital by ambulance.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Buerkre fell asleep and the 2008 GMC Acadia she was driving traveled off the left side of the roadway. She overcorrected and the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway. She overcorrected and the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a median cable barrier.

Troopers reported she was not wearing a seatbelt. Damage to the vehicle was extensive.
