Lady Cardinals bats silenced by JV pitchers

FARMINGTON — The Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals were unable to generate any substantial offense in their first game against the Central Methodist University JV Lady Eagles pitching, resulting in Coach Dave Guemmer calling for a total replacement by the team’s reserves for game two.

It did not get any better for the Lady Cardinals as they managed only three hits for an 8-0 loss in game one, but only one single in game two for an 11-0 loss.

Sonya Hahn hit a double for MAC’s only extra-base hit, and she also reached base on a walk. Courtney Massengale and Marlee Griggs had one single each for the only other hits in game one.

The Lady Cardinals trailed 2-0 going into the fifth inning, but the Lady Eagles put a three-spot up in both the fifth and sixth frames. Starting pitcher Kallie Federhofer took the loss, issuing nine hits including one home run in her four and two-thirds innings. Relief pitcher Myra Henson finished out the game and also gave up one home run.

Rachel Arnold came up with the only hit of game two for the Lady Cardinals, and JJ Pisoni and Carrie Adams drew one walk each for MAC’s only baserunners. Again Mineral Area trailed by only 2-0 going into the fifth inning, but this time they allowed only one run in the fifth, before coughing up four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. The Lady Cardinals suffered 13 strike-outs in the game.

The wins extended the Lady Eagles (4-6) win streak to four. Mineral Area (12-26) will try to halt their six-game skid this afternoon when they host St. Charles at 2 p.m.
