Rebels down Tourney host 2-0, eye championship

ST. LOUIS — The Central Rebels played on an all-turf infield for the only MAAA baseball team to get a game in on Wednesday. The Rebels were able to pull off a 2-0 win over the host team in the Lutheran South Tournament behind the three-hit pitching of Collin Manion.

With the win, the Rebels must wait for the outcome of the De Soto – Sullivan game to find out if they win the tournament or not. If De Soto win, then the Rebels are the champions, if Sullivan wins then Lutheran South would win their own tourney due to a three-way tie which would leave the host team holding the tiebreaker.

Manion struck out three and walked only one to pitch the shut-out. Jake Rhodes supplied the needed offense with a two-run double in the sixth inning for the Rebels, who had only seven hits in the game.

Riley Calvird was 2-3 with a double, Josh Scherffius was 1-2, and Jake Bridges and Manion were both 1-4.

Central (12-6) will host Bismarck this afternoon for their next game.
