Whitener Scholarship applications now being accepted

Graduates of Marquand-Zion High School who live in the school’s district are eligible to apply for the Raymond and Mary F. Whitener Memorial Scholarship.

Applications may be obtained by contacting Mrs. Donna Greer, Counselor, P.O. Box A – Marquand, MO 63655, and must be returned no later than Friday, May 10, 2013.  Although preference will be given to 2013 graduates, alumni are encouraged to apply as well.  All applications will be reviewed for consideration by the Mary F. Whitener Board of Trustees.  All scholarships are for one year, although applicants may reapply for succeeding years.  The number of scholarships, and the amount of each award, varies depending upon the number of applications received and the availability of funds.

The scholarship may be used for any accredited college or university, be it public or private, so long as the said institution is located within any state or territory of the United States.  The scholarship is also available to any student attending a post high school vocational facility, school of nursing, or properly accredited apprenticeship program.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:  1.) Legal resident of the Marquand-Zion School District, 2.) A full time student during their senior year of high school, 3.) Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA during the last four years of their high school education, 4.) Demonstrated good school and community citizenship throughout the high school years, and 5.) Show financial need.

The Whitener Scholarship Fund was established in an attempt to ease the financial burden on graduates who wish to pursue a higher level of education.

The family of Raymond and Mary Whitener actively support the Whitener Memorial Scholarship Fund, and along with the Board of Trustees, would like to encourage individuals to consider this tax-deductible investment in the future of our students when considering donations for any reason.  Contributions may be forwarded to:  Whitener Memorial Scholarship Fund – C/O Denny Ward, President – P.O. Box 55 – Marquand, MO  63655.
