Valle’s track teams shut out on day one of State Meet

JEFFERSON CITY — Day one of the Class 2 State Track Meet saw few events finalized as all preliminaries that were needed took place as well. Only four events for the boys and five for the girls were completed on Friday.

Valle Catholic’s boys team had qualified for seven events in the state meet and the girls team had three entries entered, but both teams will look to score points today after coming up empty-handed in Friday’s events.

Both teams are ensured of scoring points on Saturday as the girls 4×200 and 4×400 meter relay teams and the boys 4×400 meter relay team qualified for the finals by finishing in the top eight of Friday’s preliminaries. Team points are awarded for the top eight in each event.

The girls 4x200m relay team of Lacey Marschel, Chelsey Operle, Taylor Oberle and Gretchen Koller beat out the Fair Grove relay team by just 48 hundredths of a second to take the eighth and final spot in Saturday’s finals.

Marschel and Koller will also run in the 4x400m relay finals with Eva Rolfe and Briley Bieser after the team had the sixth best time of the two preliminary heats.

The boys 4x400m relay team of Damian Jokerst, Calvin Colvis, Nicholas Klein and Matt Bauman also placed eighth in the preliminaries to qualify for Saturday’s finals.

After Friday’s five events Herculaneum led the girls meet with a total of 27 points with St. Peter’s Lutheran in second place with 18. Lamar had command of the boys meet with a score of 34, well ahead of a four-way tie for second by Malden, Principia, Monroe and College Heights Christian.
