Issue of trees lining downtown sidewalks
Ste. Genevieve – A committee has been formed in Ste. Genevieve to deal with the issue of trees lining downtown sidewalks.
A few of the trees planted had caused sidewalks to buckle. Those trees will be removed.
An elderly woman tripped on the sidewalk on Market Street in December of 2011. After that, the county commission pushed for the removal of trees. Four people including Alderman Donald Stuppy reported being injured by these buckling sidewalks.
A resident suggested using a different type of tree. One property owner said he felt the lifting sidewalks had caused water to seep into his basement.
The committee will include three Ste. Genevieve aldermen and three residents. At least one other member may be named.
