MAC plans financial aid, admissions open house

PARK HILLS — Recognizing that the thought of re-entering the classroom can initially be a scary experience for some, Mineral Area College is holding an open house and question-and-answer session from 9–11 a.m. Tuesday at the North College Center, the building located near the Route O entrance of the Park Hills campus.

Beth Mell, career advisor, is helping to plan the event, and said the open house was prompted after hearing many older students say they wish they’d known how easy it was to enroll at MAC, take classes, and perform beyond their own expectations, grade-wise.

“Every time I hear a student at the beginning of the semester express anxiety, I try to calm them and reassure them they’ll be surprised by how used to the campus they’ll get,” she said. “When I check in with them later, they often say, ‘I’m so used to college now. I can’t believe I was so scared to attend college.'”

The 9-11 a.m. event will offer information on financial aid, application, enrollment and registering for classes. Tours of the campus will be available, and questions are encouraged. Mell said walk-ins are welcome, and the usual $15 fee will be waived for those who apply that day.

Anyone interested in attending should call (573) 518-2155 to RSVP or get more information.
