Trojans, Hunters take titles at opening meet
ST. LOUIS — The Potosi boys cross country team made a substantial stride toward resurgence with a superb effort Saturday, while the Ste. Genevieve girls continued their dominance at Jefferson Barracks.
Austin King raced to second place while leading five Trojans among the top 15 individuals, and Potosi easily won the Lutheran South team title with 22 points.
Eric Luebke was fifth overall while teammates Austin Smith and Thomas Grass ran seventh and ninth, respectively, for Potosi.
Andrew Moore (16:34.75) gave Ste. Genevieve a first-place sweep of the individual honors after edging King by more than four seconds. Ben Naeger ran third overall for the Dragons.
Sophomore sensation Taylor Werner (18:10.37) repeated her championship as six Hunters placed among the top nine for a dazzling team score of 17.
Mia Jerman finished second, Mallory Koller was third and Amy Huck was next across the line for the defending Class 3 state champions.
Clarice Casner placed 10 representing the Potosi girls.
