Lady Rebels win 19th on Senior Day

PARK HILLS — Morgin Reece twirled a 3-hitter in her final regular-season start Tuesday, and the Central softball team topped St. Pius 5-1 to move within one victory of their second 20-win season.

Hanna Stam posted her 10th consecutive multi-hit game in style, going 3-for-3 with a triple and double. She also collected her 30th stolen base in the sixth inning, and scored two runs.

Reece walked four and fanned four while going the distance, allowing her lone run on an RBI double by Lauren Marks in the first inning.

She was honored along with shortstop Georgia Richardson before the game. The pair of seniors will look to bring home a second straight district title on Thursday with Central (19-3) owning the top seed in Potosi.

Central notched two runs in the home half of the first inning, starting with Olivia Casey’s sacrifice fly. Ally Welch then scored on a wild pitch from Lady Lancers starter Danielle Robinson after her single moved Stam to third.

St. Pius turned a failed sacrifice into a double play to avert trouble in the second, but the Lady Rebels produced three insurance tallies against reliever Katie Brinegar in the fourth.

Stam ripped a 2-run double to make it 4-1 after Kylie House singled and Alexus Groom was plunked. Welch then executed a safety squeeze bunt.

Richardson had a single with two stolen bases, and assisted on the game’s final out as St. Pius (11-12) stranded its seventh runner.

Mady Hart added a double while Groom and Reece singled in the win.

Marks netted another double to finish 2-for-3, and Kelley Conway singled for St. Pius after earlier lining sharply to Stam at third base.
