Elizabeth “”Betty”” Umfleet
Elizabeth “Betty” Umfleet, 82, formerly of Fredericktown, died Thursday, October 31, 2013 in Cape Girardeau. She was born October 21, 1931 in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of Felix and Rady Ellis.
She married Charles Umfleet Jr. March 24, 1951 in Pocahontas, Ark. He preceded her in death August 2, 2009.
Survivors include daughters Karen (Brian) Frisch, and Maureen (Ed) Heuss of Washington; son Dr. Jeffrey (Christine) Umfleet of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren; sisters Joan Davis, Sue (John) Linkel, Janet (Jay) Geis, Drucilla (Dotta) Masters, Mary Margaret “Herbie” Thomas; and brothers Bill (Brenda) Ellis, David (Phyllis) Ellis, Richard “Rick” (Barbara) Ellis and their families, and many nieces, nephews, and great friends.
Betty retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 33 years of service. She grew up in Detroit and moved to Fredericktown when she was 17. She graduated from Fredericktown High School.
Betty was an active member for many years of the First Presbyterian Church of Fredericktown. She was also an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Madison County Historical Society. Betty had many interests, including photography, crafts, bridge club and volunteering at many organizations.
Betty enjoyed life and so many great times spent with family and special friends.
Funeral services were Monday, November 4, 2013 at Follis & Sons Funeral Home.
