Florida man killed in crash on U.S. 67
One person was killed and another received serious injuries in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 67 Thursday morning.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 8:05 a.m. Jan. 2, when a 2001 Jeep Cherokee driven by 65-year-old Newell Gillenwater of Coconut Creek, Fla. drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The accident happened on U.S. 67, two miles south of Madison County Road 412.
Gillenwater was pronounced dead at the scene by Madison County Coroner Collin Follis. His passenger, 67-year-old Charles Gillenwater of Piedmont received serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Madison Medical Center and then airlifted to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
The damage to vehicle was listed as total. Both men were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

In an un-related accident, a Fredericktown woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon in Madison County.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Matthew Levart of Silva was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger south on Route M, one mile south of Buckhorn. Levart’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 1998 Ford Escort, being driven north by 83-year-old Geraldine Crawford of Fredericktown.
Crawford received moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Parkland Health Center in Farmington for treatment.
Damage to both vehicles was listed as total. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
