Central clarifies incident for parents
A post on social media that the Central Middle School was placed on lockdown turned out to be a hoax, much to the ire of parents and administrators.
Superintendent Dr. Desi Mayberry confirmed Monday that the post was a hoax and that at no time were any of the students in danger. The following letter was sent to parents Monday.
“Dear Parent/Guardian:
“I wanted to inform you that there was an incident reported over the weekend to school officials that a student made a threat against other middle school students. The proper authorities were notified and the issue was dealt with in accordance with school policy.
“At no time were there any issues on school property. The middle school was never on lock down as there was no threat that would warrant lock down.
“Thank you for your understanding and support. Sincerely, Mike Harlow, Principal”
Details of the threat were not available at press time but officials said a female student made the threat against another student.
Administrators spoke with the girl and her parents or guardians Monday, but any disciplinary action taken was not disclosed.
