Sizzling start propels Warriors to home win

STE. GENEVIEVE — Valle Catholic had its offense clicking throughout a dominant first quarter, and defeated Herculaneum 76-51 in boys basketball action on Monday night.

Connor Basler scored 18 points, and Daniel Bergtholdt had 13, and Tyler Uding contributed 11 to a balanced scoring effort.

The Warriors finished 51 percent from the field, including 8-of-16 from beyond the arc to snap a 2-game skid.

Tyler Shuh knocked down a 3-pointer and shorter jumper with the opening stanza winding down to give Valle Catholic (9-5) a 26-9 lead.

Jacob Trautman chipped in eight points and helped Valle Catholic pull down 10 offensive rebounds as a team.

Adam Fischer scored a game-high 24 points for Herculaneum (3-15).
