Knights place sixth at state meet, Napoli wins second
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Farmington’s Payton Napoli (39-10) was the last area wrestler to wrestle Saturday night in the State Championship round as he faced off against Kyle Muehring of Hannibal with a record of 47-2.
Napoli lost the match by a 5-2 decision to take second place in the Class 3, 220-pound weight division, but the points he earned over the three-day tournament helped the Farmington Knights to finish in sixth place in Class 3.
The Knights scored 72 points in the meet with five wrestlers medaling in their respective weight classes. Napoli won second place, Collin Huitt (160) placed fourth, William Seibert (145) and Adam Maple (285) both took fifth place, and Nicky Greco finished sixth.
Ste. Genevieve finished in 11th place in Class 2 with a total of 54.5 points. The Dragons were led by Travis Jones, the 2013 State Champion at 120-pounds
Jones bounced back from a Friday semi-final loss to win both of his Saturday matches for third place at 126 pounds. Tanner Jones (132) also suffered a semi-final loss on Friday, and after winning the fourth wrestleback match, he placed fourth after a 2-1 loss in his third place match.
Central’s Michael Clark came the closest to medaling for the Rebels but a loss in Friday’s third wrestleback-round prevented Clark from Saturday’s medal rounds.
