Lucas, Bridges set team records as Rebels roll
STE. GENEVIEVE — Two Central baseball players set program records on Thursday as their team downed Ste. Genevieve 13-3 for fifth place in the MAAA Tournament.
Senior outfielder Reid Lucas became the career leader in triples while going 3-for-5 with four RBI, and the Rebels scored five times in the first and fifth innings.
Sophomore Jake Bridges entered the contest tied with current head coach Ronnie Calvird for the single-season mark with 39 total hits.
He finished the day 3-for-5 with three runs scored, and was also the winning pitcher after allowing no earned runs on five hits through four innings.
Drew Jaco went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, and Pierce Daniels contributed a triple and single as Central (16-10) collected its third win of the tournament.
Ryne Scherffius picked up a 2-RBI single and Brayden Manion closed the game with two scoreless innings, including three strikeouts.
Jake Kemper paced Ste. Genevieve (14-9) by going 3-for-3, and Brandon LaRose had a 2-RBI single.
Cody Stacy threw innings in the loss as the Dragons employed four hurlers.
