Pirates win summer opener as Camillo throws no-no
BONNE TERRE — Josh Camillo pitched two no-hitters while at Kingston High School, and added another to his summer resume on Wednesday evening.
The right-hander recorded seven strikeouts in five innings for the Mineral Area Pirates, who defeated the Bonne Terre Warriors 10-0 in their Senior Babe Ruth season opener.
Blake Barlow finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Austin Tounsand had an RBI hit in his first action since suffering a broken leg.
The Pirates (1-0) scored five times in the fourth inning to extend a 4-0 lead, and enforced the 10-run rule on Clayton Brinkley’s RBI single in the fifth.
Camillo threw just 58 pitches and retired his first 13 batters. A walk on a full-count pitch in the fifth was quickly negated by a double play.
Clayton LaBruyere matched Camillo at the plate by going 2-for-3. Garrett Coffman, Hunter Hathcoat and Scott Richardson chipped in singles.
The Pirates will travel to Advance, Mo. and face the SEMO Strokers on Sunday.
