A mobile home in the 400 block of Sequoia Drive — south of Festus — caught fire June 3 and sustained severe damage, fire officials reported.
The home is in the Sunset Pointe Mobile Home Court and on the same street block where there was a fire on May 30, according to Lt. Dave Brown, the Hematite Fire Protection District’s public information officer.
He said the June 3 fire likely cost a family of eight — two adults and six children — their home.
Brown reported that the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical problem.
“It started near the main breaker panel in the back bedroom,” Brown said.
Firefighters remained at the scene for a little over an hour. The Festus Fire Department and Jefferson R-7 Fire Protection District both assisted with the call.
The district notified the Red Cross about the family’s situation, but he did not know what arrangements they had made for lodging.
Brown said investigators determined the nearby mobile home fire district fighters fought on May 30 also was accidental.
“In that one, a woman accidentally left a pot on the stove,” he said.
