Late night fire leaves home a complete loss
A fire destroyed a home at 5459 Hurryville Road early Wednesday morning.
According to Park Hills Assistant Fire Chief Jason Stamm, the call came in at 2:10 a.m. Initially it was a first alarm fire. Stamm said he had to upgrade the call to a second alarm for additional water.
“When we arrived on scene the house was 65 to 75 percent involved with fire coming through the roof,” said Stamm. “It had a metal roof, but still had a lot of fire coming through the top.”
Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the fire.
The assistant chief said the neighbors heard a loud explosion and then looked over to see the house on fire.
The fire appears to have started in the southwest side of the house, however the exact location is unknown.
According to Stamm, one firefighter was treated on the scene by the St. Francois County Ambulance District after getting something in his eye.
Emergency crews worked through the night. The fire was eventually controlled and firefighters were able to leave the scene at 6:30 a.m.
Departments called to assist included Desloge, Wolf Creek, Doe Run, Farmington, Big River, Leadwood, Leadington and De Soto Rural.
A Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office investigator was called in to investigate. It appears the cause of the fire will be listed as undetermined.
