Radio stations donate ticket proceeds to benefit United Way
PARK HILLS – Five hundred Cardinals tickets were successfully sold in support of the United Way of St. Francois County Night at Busch Stadium July 10.
KFMO/B104 and First State Community Bank were key sponsors of the event. KFMO/B104 donated half of all ticket proceeds to the United Way – for a total of $3,700.
Larry Joseph, general manager of KFMO/B104, said the station is pleased to support the work of the United Way.
“The donation helps ensure the work of the United Way will continue,” Joseph said.
In addition, Joseph added in the 30 years he has been in the area, the support given to local charities speaks highly of the citizens of St. Francois County.
The United Way also auctioned off the chance to throw out the first pitch at the game during an all-day, on-air auction at KFMO/B104 on June 27. The high bidder was Roger Huff, a lifelong Cardinals fan who once served as a utility player for Bismarck under coach Hal Loughary. Huff said Stan “The Man” Musial remains his favorite Cardinal’s player of all time. Huff expressed his support of United Way in keeping donations in St. Francois County to support local agencies.
The money raised will go toward the $180,000 the United Way Board has pledged to award in grants in early 2015.
FSCB donated funds to the United Way to support the promotion of the game, as well as selling tickets at four locations.
The field level tickets were sold for $15 each, resulting in rapid sales.
In early 2014, the United Way awarded $200,000 in grants to 28 agencies that meet local needs. Applications for 2015 grants are currently being reviewed.
