Vehicle recovered from city lake

A Fredericktown man was injured last week when he jumped out of his vehicle before it went into Fredericktown City Lake.

According to a Fredericktown Police report, 69-year-old Franklin Francis was driving south on City Lake Road and ran off the road into the Fredericktown City Lake. The 1999 Dodge Ram truck was still moving when Francis jumped out before it went into the lake.

Francis told officers there was a dump truck in the roadway. He said he drove off the road to give the dump truck room to pass. He said he then pulled further off the road and thought the vehicle was going to go into the lake, so he jumped out of the truck.

He received minor injuries in the accident and was taken by ambulance to Madison Medical Center for treatment.

The truck is listed as totaled and was towed from the scene after searchers found the vehicle in about 12 feet of water.
