Deputy picks up two men suspected of armed robbery involvement

Two men, Marcus Nelson, 32, and Robert Rodriguez, 28, were arrested by a Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s deputy and charged with felonies related to an alleged armed robbery in Cape Girardeau.

The suspects were charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.

A $150,000 cash only bond was set by the judge.

According to the Cape Girardeau Police, the victim knew Nelson personally and was looking to purchase a vehicle.

Nelson informed the victim that he had an acquaintance who had a car for sale and asked him to bring $5,000 dollars with him.

Throughout the dealing, the victim was led by the supposed seller of the vehicle to a Chevrolet Caprice Classic where the seller told him he had forgotten the keys to the car.

After visiting an apartment to retrieve said keys, they returned to the parking lot with the car where the seller brandished a firearm at the victim and demanded his money.

The man took his money and drove away, after which the victim called Nelson to tell him what happened before contacting the police.
