Mud event to benefit injured logger

A benefit will be held this weekend to help raise funds for a local logger injured on the job.

Chris Mabe, of Potosi, was working in the woods when he bent down to grab his chainsaw. He apparently slipped and hit the back of his head on a snag, causing him to break his neck.

At the moment Mabe cannot walk due to his injury, but he is determined to change that.

To help offset the cost of his medical bills an “Injured Logger Mud Bog” event will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. on Hwy. 47 in Richwoods behind the motorcycle/ATV track.

There will be live bands with an after-party and bonfire. Local Park Hills teenager Mariah Thomas will be singing at the event. A concession stand and bounce house will also be set up.

“We are encouraging everybody to come out and enjoy all the activities going on,” said Colby Benson, event organizer. “People who have four-wheelers, side-by-sides, and trucks should all come out.

“We have everything from small areas to play and do donuts in to small and big deep mud holes to ride in. We’re also going to have cars out there for people to run over in their truck. There’s just going to be a lot going on.”

Admission at the gate will be $20 per adult and kids get in free.

Among some of the activities will be a power wheel mud hole and a biggest truck contest. Free camping will also be allowed the night of Sept. 6.

Mud pit banners to line the pits are offered for sale at $130 each to sponsors.

All the proceeds will go to Mabe to help aid in the payment of his medical bills. People with questions about the weekend event can contact Colby or Brittany Benson at 573-854-2271 or 573-210-6619.
