Nearly simultaneous accidents injure two
Separate accidents that occurred Friday in different counties just a minute apart resulted in two area residents receiving minor injuries.
The first wreck took place at 8:24 p.m. on Highway 221, three-tenths of a mile north of Shy Road in St. Francois County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident took place when a northbound 2002 Hyundai driven by Carolyn S. Francis, 43, of Fredericktown, slowed to a make a left turn and was hit by a northbound 2003 Chevrolet Impala driven by Che C. Gott, 30, of Ironton, who failed to yield.
The front left of Gott’s Impala struck the right rear of Francis’ Hyundai. Gott’s vehicle then continued off the right side of the roadway and struck multiple mailboxes.
Francis was transported by St. Francois County Ambulance to Parkland Health Center in Farmington and treated for minor injuries. She was reportedly wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The second accident occurred at 8:25 p.m. on Stark Road, six-tenths of a mile east of Cooksub Road in Washington County.
According to MSHP, the accident took place when an eastbound 2014 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Rebeka J. Martin, 32, of Potosi, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a post.
Injured in the accident was occupant Maryssa K. Matrin, 6, who was taken by private conveyance to Washington County Memorial Hospital in Potosi. She was reportedly secured in a car seat when the accident occurred.
