The Fredericktown Fire Department is hosting its sixth annual chili cook-off Oct. 25, on East Main Street in Fredericktown
The cook-off helps the department to help raise money for training and equipment.
Only the first 25 teams will be accepted. Teams are encouraged to use propane, as there is a limited supply of electric this year. Teams are asked to make a minimum of five gallons of chili, which must be cooked on-site the day of the cook-off. Cooking begins at 8:30 a.m.
Wristbands and tickets can be purchased at 11 a.m. and public chili sampling begins at 11:30. People’s Choice voting ends at 1:45 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place, People’s Choice, and Best Site. The fire department will also be cooking chili for public consumption, but will not be judged.
Games and face painting begin at 10 a.m. Elmo will be teaching fire safety, and the fire department and family members will be providing entertainment throughout the day. There will be a jalapeno eating contest at 2 p.m., and awards will be presented at 2:30.
