John J. Matthews

John J. Matthews, 88, died October 7, 2014 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born April 3, 1926 in Madison County, the son of John H. and Alice Cumie (Bollinger) Matthews.

Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his parents; son Randy Matthews; daughter Carol Ann Matthews; brothers A.J. Matthews and Harold Matthews; and sister Wilma Matthews.

Survivors include his wife Ruby (Francis) Matthews, whom he married February 15, 1947 in Fredericktown; sons Larry Matthews and Ray (Ramona) Matthews, both of Fredericktown; daughters Doris (Jerry) Boatright of Hillsboro, Mo., Betty (Eric) Corson of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Sandy (Bruce) Bollinger of Barnhart, Mo., and Brenda (Chad) Robinson of Ashland, Mo.; brothers Bill Matthews of Pelzer, SC, and Clarence Matthews of Farmington; sisters Zelta Rouse, Faye Umfleet of Fredericktown, and Alma Smith of Heber Springs, Ark. 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

John worked for the City of Fredericktown for 41 years and retired in 1988 from the City Water Plant.

Funeral services were October 10, 2014 at Follis & Sons Funeral Home with Brother Clyde Bess and Dr. Lindell Sikes officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
