Gary Porterfield

BONNE TERRE — Gary Lee Porterfield, 73, of Bonne Terre passed away October 18, 2014, at Mercy Jefferson Hospital. He was born January 4, 1941, in Poplar Bluff to the late Albert Lee and Laura (Howard) Porterfield.

Gary was employed with Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years. He retired as the chief clerk of the DeSoto Shop. He was a faithful member of the Primrose Baptist Church, a member of the Mineral Area Hemerocallis Society, and a lifetime member of the Greater St. Louis Day Lily Society. Gary was big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals but an even bigger fan of the Grandview R-2 Athletics, especially the coach, his son who coaches cross county.

Gary is survived by his wife of 50 years Lillie (Franklin) Porterfield; son, Craig Porterfield and wife Kayce; grandchildren, Jordan Harrison Porterfield and Makenzi Cheyanne Porterfield; sisters-in-law, Naomi Horton, Betty Skaggs and husband Rick, Linda Rawson and husband Larry; several nieces and nephews also survive.

On Sunday November 2, 2014, a memorial gathering and a luncheon will begin at 12:30 pm with a memorial service to follow at 2 pm at the Primrose Baptist Church in rural Bonne Terre. Rev. Randy Murphy will be officiating the services. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to The Grandview R-2 Cross Country Team, 11470 Hwy C, Hillsboro, MO 63050
