JROTC Rifle Teams Defeat Farmington Marksmen

The Fredericktown High School Army JROTC Rifle Teams hosted the Farmington High School Air Fore JROTC Rifle Teams in the third home ‘shoulder-to-shoulder’ match of the fall season (Sporter Division) held at the Fredericktown Missouri National Guard Armory, October 16. Both of Fredericktown’s teams won over Farmington’s A and B squads.

The varsity shooting squad scored 1,204 total points to Farmington’s 1,139 total points. Cadet Brenden Todd scored a match high score of 260 points, taking the first place medallion; Cadet Krystal Cox took third place overall with 242 total points. Air Force Cadet Ryan Merrit of Farmington took the second place medallion with 251 total points. Also, Cadet Cox took two first place individual medals (96 points in Prone and 86 points in the Kneeling shooting position); Cadet Todd with three individual medals (first in Standing with 82 points, second in Kneeling with 86 points, and third in Prone with 92 points). Jessica Asher won two individual medals with a second place finish in the Prone firing position (94 points) and second place in the Standing firing position with 77 points. Also shooting on the A-Division squad were Cadets Gabriel Coonce (235 points) and Tyler Henson (219 total points)

Two of Farmington’s JROTC Varsity Shooters were awarded individual medals; Cadet Ryan Merit took third place in Standing with 75 points and Cadet Greg Mynear took third place in the Kneeling firing position with a score of 84 points.

The junior varsity squad scored 931 total points to Farmington’s 813 points. The three medalists in the B – Division were Fredericktown Cadets Ian Kemp (first Place with 215 total points) and Rana Varnum (third place with 192 points). Farmington’s Cadet Samantha Cook took second place with 214 total points. The other three Cadets shooting in this competition on Fredericktown’s B – Division squad were Cadets Julia Sikes (188 points), Gabriel Corcino (181 points), and Rylee McGeary (155 points).

The final home match of the Blackcat Battalion’s JROTC Rifle Team in the 2014 Bootheel Conference ‘shoulder-to-shoulder’ competition will be at the Fredericktown National Guard Armory against the New Madrid County Central JROTC squads October 23 at 1:30 p.m.
