The Fredericktown High School Army JROTC Rifle Teams hosted the New Madrid County Central (NMCC) High School Army JROTC Rifle Teams in the final home ‘shoulder-to-shoulder’ match of the fall season (Sporter Division) held at the Fredericktown Missouri National Guard Armory, Oct. 23.
Fredericktown’s JROTC varsity squad was a 200-point winner over NMCC’s squad (1272 to 972 total points) while NMCC’s junior varsity squad was a four-point winner over Fredericktown’s B squad (917 to 913 total points).
The varsity shooting squad’s Cadet Brendenn Todd finished in first place once again, amassing 261 total points; Cadet Gabriel Coonce was second (246 total points), and Cadet Krystal finished with 241 total points for a third place finish. Placement Medallions were presented to these three cadets. They also took most of the individual medals in the specific firing positions. Cadet Todd won three individual medals, Cadet Cox was awarded two individual medals, and Cadet Coonce finished with one individual medal. Cadet Julia Sikes also won an individual medal in the Standing Firing position with 71 points. The final competitor on the A – Squad in this event was Cadet Tyler Henson.
The junior varsity squad’s Rana Varnum finished in 2nd Place with a team-high score of 193 total points. She was awarded placement a medal for her accomplishment. The other four team members for this event were Cadets Tyler Reese (183 points), Shelly Harbison (171 points), Rylee McGeary (183 points), and Gabriel Corcino (183 points).
The Bootheel Conference ‘shoulder to shoulder’ Championships will be Nov. 1 at Dyer County High School, Dyersburg, Tenn. The Blackcat JROTC Battalion will field a Varsity and Junior Varsity Team to compete in this six school competition.
