MAC women force 31 turnovers in season opener
CARTERVILLE, Ill. – The Mineral Area women’s basketball team shot 51 percent from the field and forced 31 turnovers on Saturday to defeat Parkland College 88-69 at the John A. Logan Classic.
M.J. Buschmann compiled 19 points, six rebounds and five steals as four sophomore Lady Cardinals scored in double figures. They pulled away after taking a narrow 37-34 lead into halftime.
Kasia Kiejdrowska added 13 points in the victory. Robneisha Lee scored 12 and Ashley Ward had 11 while helping Mineral Area make 26-of-37 free throws.
Alayah Cooper-Johnson posted team highs with eight steals and seven rebounds while Riley Reddin distributed seven assists.
Precious Harvey chipped in nine points for MAC, which opened the season by going 8-of-17 from 3-point range.
Laura Litchfield netted 20 points and Hannah Wascher tallied 18 for Parkland.
