Paramedics delivered a healthy baby boy in a car Monday afternoon (Nov. 3) in the De Soto area, for a mother who had been on her way to the hospital, authorities report.

At 12:03 p.m. Monday, De Soto Rural Fire Protection District got a call about a mother in labor in a car at Oakvale Road and Hwy. 67, southeast of De Soto, Chief Paul Mayer said.

Paramedics from the Joachim-Plattin and Valle ambulance districts assisted in the delivery.

Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District paramedic Gary Stefan and fellow Joachim-Plattin paramedic Mike Tawfall and Valle Ambulance District paramedic Ken Pratt assisted in the delivery, according to a Nov. 3 Facebook post by the Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District.

The mother and father were traveling to the hospital “when the little boy decided to arrive,” the post said. The mother and baby were transported to Mercy Hospital Jefferson (in Crystal City) and “are doing great,” the post also said.
