Thursday’s MAAA Basketball Round-up
BOYS
Jefferson 67, Kingston 47
CADET – The Kington Cougars fell behind early to the Jefferson BlueJays and were unable to catch up as the BlueJays kept their distance to score a 67-47 win on Thursday.
The Cougars played even basketball for the second quarter with both teams scoring 13 in the frame, but after the half, the BlueJays pulled away again.
Dayton Shepard scored a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Cole Ragan finished with 12 points, Deavin Coleman had eight and Drew Boyer scored six. The Cougars were 9-15 at the line.
Kingston will play next on Monday at Bourbon.
Herculaneum 30, Fredericktown 29
HERCULANEUM – The Fredericktown Blackcats led most of the game against Herculaneum, but could not hold on as Herculaneum took the lead in the final minutes of play to pull out a 30-29 win.
Rylan Matthews and Brennan White matched scoring honors along with Herculaneum’s Matt Coffman scoring 10 point each.
Brock O’Neal ended up with seven for Fredericktown and Ethan Rouse scored two.
Fredericktown (2-3) will play at Perryville this evening.
GIRLS
Fredericktown 70, St. Vincent 29
FREDERICKTOWN – The Fredericktown Lady Blackcats allowed the Visiting St. Vincent Lady Indians only one basket in the first quarter as they ran away with the game for a 70-29 win on Thursday. The Lady Blackcats made good on six threes with their leading scorer Paige Godsey collecting two as part of her 18 point game. Abby Clark was next with 12, and Ellie Jensen finished with 10. Callista Francis scored eight and AnnaBeth Phillips nailed a pair of threes to score six. Raylyn Dodd and Rachel Hamilton both scored five each, and Brooklynn Hudson and Kirsten Hanner scored one three-pointer each.
Fredericktown (2-3) will travel to play South Iron on Monday.
Hillsboro 47, Potosi 42
POTOSI – The Potosi Lady Trojans held a 10-point lead going into the final seconds of the third quarter, but they suffered a collapse over the last quarter to fall to the Hillsboro Lady Hawks 47-42.
Mackenzie Adams and Allie Golden both finished with nine to lead Potosi in scoring. Jenna Haynes scored eight and Macie Knott had seven. Lexi Close scored 21 and Izze Ringling had 10 for Hillsboro.
Potosi (2-4) will be back home on Monday to play Festus.
De Soto 53, Farmington 39
FARMINGTON – De Soto received a game-high 23 points from freshman Faith Sherrod and forced 19 turnovers to defeat Farmington 53-39.
Kelsey Kingsland added 10 points for the unbeaten Dragons (6-0), who made 13-of-27 free throws compared to the Knights’ 13-of-20.
Kaitlyn Gilliam scored 13 points and fellow senior Shania Sweeney tallied 12 for Farmington (1-5).
