Lady Cardinals fall again to Iowa Western

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa. – The longest road trip of the season ended with the most decisive loss for the Mineral Area women’s basketball team.

Fanni Csutoras scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures, and the Lady Reivers routed the 19th-ranked Lady Cardinals 86-60 on Sunday.

Iowa Western (26-3) handed the Lady Cardinals their lone home loss in December, and dominated the rematch after forcing 23 turnovers and committing only seven.

Mineral Area (23-4) connected on 20-of-24 free throws, but tallied just five assists on 19 field goals and trailed 46-29 at halftime.

Janekia Mason paced the Lady Cards off the bench with 13 points and seven rebounds. Alayah Cooper-Johnson scored 12 points and M.J. Buschmann added 10.

The Lady Reivers received 3 points from Jasmine Trimboli. Chenelle Pelle chipped in 12 points with eight rebounds, and Maddie Beagley scored 11.

Mineral Area returned to action one day after securing a key 75-69 victory at Crowder, and had won 12 of its previous 13 games.

The Lady Cardinals will host first-place State Fair on Saturday with the winner claiming the No. 1 seed in the Region 16 tournament.
