Rosemary Marie Thorton

Rosemary Marie Thorton, 75, died Monday, January 26, 2015 at Kindred Hospital in St. Louis. Born November 7, 1939 in St. Louis, she was the daughter Orval Thomas and Ruth May Belle (Waggoner) Uptegrove.

She was united in marriage on February 6, 1960 in St. Louis to Ralph “Danny” Strother, Jr. Rosie was later married November 7, 1991 in Las Vegas, Nev. to Lawrence Thorton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orval and Ruth Uptegrove; sister Geraldine Peterson; her former husband, Ralph Strother, Jr.; her beloved husband of 22 years, Lawrence Thorton, who died December 25, 2013; and nephews Rick Conner and Tommy Classen and Dale Classen.

Survivors include her son, Daniel “Scottie” Strother of St. Louis; sister Anna Mae Conner and her husband, Truman J., of Pleasant Hill, Ill.; nieces Micky Copher, Patty Patterson (Tom), and Inky Shover (Rick); nephews Randy Conner (Terri) and Gary Conner (Diane); foster grandson Kyan Bontoro; other relatives and many friends.

Rosie was a 1957 graduate of Beaumont High School in St. Louis. She worked as a florist for Flower Box and Tidwell Flower Shop. Rosie also was one of several head cooks for Madison Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home. She loved decorating homes for Christmas and painting. Rosie was actively involved with the Special Olympics.

Graveside Services were February 16, 2015 in Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry, Mo. Arrangements were handled by Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, Elsberry.
