Arcadia may have Amtrak stop by end of summer

For those who have been patiently waiting for Amtrak passenger services in Iron County, that future is very close.

Beginning in 2012, Amtrak, the Missouri Department of Highways and Transportation, Union Pacific, the City of Arcadia and members of Our Town Tomorrow have been in meetings discussing the documents and funding it will take to make the Arcadia Amtrak possible.

The documents are being finalized so that MoDOT can put it out for bid. This will happen in the next couple of months. The project will be out for bids for 21 days and likely be ready for bids in March. Once a company is chosen to build it, the construction is set for 90 days. After the construction is completed, it can start the next day.

Once everything is signed and agreed on Union Pacific will make an announcement, officials said.
