The Lady Cats Basketball Team’s season ended with a 46-38 loss to the De Soto Dragons, Thursday in the Class 4, District 2 Tournament semifinals, at Ste. Genevieve.
Fredericktown fell behind by eight points, 11-3 after one quarter. The Lady Cats cut the lead to six points, 23-17 at halftime. Fredericktown then trimmed the lead to four points with an 11-9 third quarter.
Ellie Jensen led the Lady Cats with 16 points. Raylyn Dodd scored nine, Paige Godsey scored six, Annabeth Phillips scored three, and Abby Clark and Callista Francis each scored two. Francis, Dodd, and Clark each had six rebounds. Godsey added six assists and five steals.
In the opening round of the tournament, the Lady Cats defeated the host Ste. Genevieve Dragons, 47-29.
During a low-scoring first quarter, the game was tied 3-3 before Ellie Jensen gave the Cats the lead with a free throw with 1:29 remaining. Jensen added a basket with 17.8 seconds left and the Casts led 6-3 after one.
Five different players scored for FHS in the second quarter, as the Cats increased their lead to 18-6 at halftime.
Fredericktown led 29-13 midway through the third quarter, before Ste. Gen. scored eight straight points. The Cats ended the third period with seven straight points. They completed an 11-0 run with four straight to start the fourth quarter. The FHS lead was 40-21.
Jensen led the Cats with 13 points in the game. Godsey had ten, Phillips had nine, Francis had six, Clark had five, and Dodd had four. Francis had eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Godsey and Phillips each had five assists.
