Lady Cards secure two more region wins
FARMINGTON – Shayla Jansson pitched the Mineral Area softball team to a doubleheader sweep, and delivered the walk-off RBI single in the second contest on Tuesday.
The Lady Cardinals completed a huge comeback in the opener to prevail 11-8 over Region 16 rival St. Louis, and ended the day with a 4-3 triumph.
Game one saw Mineral Area erupt for seven runs in the fifth inning after trailing 8-2. That rally handed starting pitcher Tynai’ Burrow a win after she allowed 14 hits.
Emily Robinson homered for the third time in four games, and Burrow highlighted the offensive push by going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Alix Adams was a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored, and Courtney Zweifel notched three RBI on a pair of singles. Cassie Haden and Michala Martin collected RBI singles.
Jansson threw the final two scoreless innings without allowing a hit. She returned to the circle for game two, and surrendered eight hits while striking out three.
St. Louis pulled even at 3-3 with a run in the sixth, but Jansson’s clutch hit won it in the seventh.
Adams and Burrow both finished 2-for-3 while Robinson and Zweifel added doubles.
Mineral Area (10-12) reached the midway point of region play with a 5-1 record with each of those contests occurring on its home diamond.
A doubleheader against Three Rivers has been moved up to today in an effort to avoid Thursday’s threat of stormy weather.
