Raiders meet the challenge with teamwork Saturday

FHS US Army JROTC Blackcat Raider Team hosted the Second Annual Blackcat Raider Challenge event Saturday.

A total of ten Raider Teams competed in the daylong challenge series. Challengers began the day with a briefing at 5 a.m. followed by the AFPT (Air Force Physical Fitness Test) at 6 a.m. The cadets took a break to eat breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the armory facility.

Fredericktown Blackcat Raider Team won the obstacle course event with a time of 25:27. They placed sixth overall for the day.

Teams headed to the SRT training site at 8:30 a.m. to compete in the raider gauntlet; rope bridge element; cross country rescue (litter carry) event; biathlon; obstacle course; and a 10 K (6.2 mi.) run.

The grand finale’ was the Ultimate Raider Challenge contest which went to the top male and female. The winners were Alex Schick for the men and Steaphie Trudell for the women, both from Waynesville High School.

An awards ceremony concluded the day that evening with trophies for first through third places in each event. Overall raider team winners were awarded in first through third places, also.

Waynesville High School’s US Army JROTC Raider team #1 took first place overall. In second place was Mexico Military Academy’s US Army JROTC Raider team. The third place winner was the US Army JROTC Raider team from Ozark High School.

The top three men in the APFT were Alex Schick, Konnor Delk, and Eli Blashford, all of Waynesville. The top three women in the same event were Steaphie Trudell, Selenna Hedgpath, and Danielle Medine who were all from Waynesville, also.

Raider teams from all over Missouri and one from out of state came to compete. Davenport High School’s US Army JROTC Raider team from Iowa, traveled the longest distance.
