MAC softball clinches top seed in region
UNION, Mo. – Shayla Jansson scattered six hits over seven innings, and the Mineral Area softball team got the doubleheader split it needed to clinch the top seed for the upcoming Region 16 tournament.
Alix Adams provided a key 2-run double in the sixth inning, and Emily Robinson scored two runs during game 2 as the Lady Cardinals prevailed 4-2.
Mineral Area (17-19, 8-2) seized a 2-0 lead in an opening frame that included an RBI hit from Robinson. Adams increased the margin to 4-1 and Jansson made it stand.
Courtney Zweifel, Tynai’ Burrow and Morgan Reynolds added singles to the win as the Lady Cardinals responded from a disappointing finish in the opening contest.
Burrow surrendered a 2-run walk-off home run in the seventh inning that lifted the host Falcons to a 5-3 triumph.
Each team scored twice in the fifth inning after the game was tied 1-1. Burrow was 2-for-3 with a double offensively, and allowed eight hits in defeat while striking out two.
Michala Martin singled along with Jansson and Adams for Mineral Area, which is rescheduled to face Cottey on the road Saturday in regular-season finale.
